Summary of thesis

Maar volcanoes are small monogenetic edifices mostly formed by phreatomagmatic eruptions. In this study, we investigate the maar volcanoes in the Central Anatolian Volcanic Province (Turkey) to understand the morphological, depositional and petrological variations in between and other counterparts in the world. To explore these variations, we try to discuss the role of substrata and structural features in their formations using the high resolution digital elevation models obtained by drones and other available satellite images and field observations. Some of the maars are formed with the either scoria cone or lava dome depending on the composition, and this also enables us to explore the transition from phreatomagmatic to magmatic eruption in the same region. By performing the electrical resistivity surveys, we image the shallow sub-surface and try to understand the mechanisms beneath the volcano with the help of other characteristics of the maar deposits.
