Description

We propose a short course for PhD and Master students on meteorites. The course will provide essential information about recognition and classification of meteorites and impact craters, and give an insight in actual research topics. The course will also provide information about methods used to define the origin of meteorites, about the different dating techniques used for defining meteorite formation, metamorphism, exposure at the surface of an asteroid, travel time in space and fall or impact on Earth, and about organic material and the potential of meteorites for transporting life. The course will be composed by lessons and practical exercises (with specimens, thin sections and microscopes). Another goal of this course is to offer the opportunity to discuss with experts. The students can present their results as posters during coffee/tea breaks.
