Summary of thesis

My PhD project focuses on iron metallurgy in Northeastern Madagascar. The study will attempt to understand the organization of iron production in this region of Madagascar occupied by the Rasikajy civilization between ca. 9th - 15 th CE. I first seek to define the various existing technologies through the study of iron slags or furnaces. Ores extraction and the amount of iron produced will also be estimated.

My research will combine both archaeological excavations and archaeometric approaches including petrography analysis, XRF, SEM or XRD.
