Title

H2O in Rutile and the Onset of Cold Subduction

Summary of thesis

I will establish measurement protocols for water and trace elements in rutile. Using a large data set of rutiles from a broad range of P-T conditions, I will try to find patterns in the hydrogen and/or trace element contents related to a pressure dependence and thus gaining the possibility of single grain P-T-t estimates on rutile. This will then be applied to detrital rutile to trace P-T conditions of subduction zones through time, with the goal to find new evidence for the onset of cold subduction in proterozoic rutiles.
